The Historian and mixed martial artist, Daniele Bolelli A. K. A. the Zen Punisher is back to talk about the original Conan stories by Robert E. Howard. Conan is the classic Cimmerian/barbarian who was played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the movies. We discuss how the character is the ultimate muscular badass who kills monsters and sorcerers, steals jewels and rescues princesses. It’s pulp fantasy. We also talk about Conan’s underlying philosophy, how it relates to Stoicism, Musashi and Daoism. How Conan is similar to Teddy Roosevelt by being a hardened warrior in times that were getting soft, which was part of Robert E. Howard’s inspiration for the character, is also discussed. We talk about working out and how the mindset for that relates to Conan’s Stoic philosophy too.
