Newest Mindgasms Book Review of “Memories of Ice,” the third novel in Steven Erikson’s epic grimdark series with a more massively complex world than any other in fantasy. Some nerds disagree about whether this series qualifies as “grimdark,” like “Game of Thrones” by George R. R. Martin, and Joe Abercrombie’s “First Law.” One claim that everyone seems to agree on is that “Memories of Ice” is full-on epic military fantasy. The events of this book coincide with those in book 2, called “Deadhouse Gates,” but follow different characters in a different part of the world. Is the “Crippled God” gradually being revealed as the big bad guy behind the scenes?
