Newest Mindgasms Movie Chat that is a re-upload of the podcast with the Woke Centrist AKA Dusty Cubes AKA Dustin Cubit on his channel about Joker, the 2019 film starring Joaquin Phoenix and directed by Todd Phillips. Phoenix gives an amazing performance as the rejected and mentally ill clown and aspiring comedian who gets rejected and bullied, then becomes a violent murderer who inspires people to start a cult based on him. This is the origin story of the Joker villain from the Batman DC universe, and is the most financially successful r-rated “superhero” movie. It also is very different for Todd Phillips, who is normally a comedy director, and made the Hangover films. Dusty and I compare Joaquin Phoenix’s performance to that of Heath Ledger in the Dark Knight, and discuss the many direct parallels between Joker and Taxi Driver, which is interesting because the star of that, Robert Deniro, is also in this movie.
Mindgasms Movie Chat with the Woke Centrist about the new Batman movie called The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson. It’s an interesting and different take on the character, presented as a film noir detective story. Bruce Wayne also actually learns the error of his ways in terms of violence and vengeance as the solution to financial corruption and crooked cops in Gotham. He decides that being a symbol of hope as a hero character is a better way to inspire people to change the city than fighting problems with violence. Some politically oversensitive right-wingers have accused the film of being woke, ostenisbly possibly due to the social commentary on financial inequality and racism. However, it likely is just because some of the characters’ races were changed to black, in spite of the fact that their race doesn’t matter. The black actors who played Catwoman, Detective Gordan, and the Gotham mayoral candidate, were all just as great performances as that of Robert Pattinson.
