Newest Mindgasms Book Review on Anti-Oedipus: Capitalism and Schizophrenia, by Deleuze and Guattari. These are famous Marxist and semi-post-structuralist French and Italian philosophers who were also influenced by critical theory from the Frankfurt School. Their books, especially by Deleuze, tend to be very verbose, abstract and confusing. But they make a lot of very good and interesting points. I don’t understand Anti-Oedipus well enough yet to do a whole video series on it, and it definitely warrants that. So, I may do that in the future, once I understand it better. The main takeaway that I understood the best, and found the most interesting and funny, was their harsh criticism of Freud’s penis envy theory. He based gender and sex on the idea that having a penis makes you superior, because everyone supposedly either loves their penis, or wants one. This seems like some kind of transcendent penis envy force that is unfalsifiable theory. One of many recent examples of phallic symbols in popular culture is Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos having gone to space in a rocket that looks very similar to a penis:
Check out my last Mindgasms Book Review that is part 4 of my series on the Stoic philosopher, Epictetus’ book called The Art of Living: The Classical Manual on Virtue, Happiness and Effectiveness. The maxim that I am discussing in this video is “No Shame, No Blame.” Since our attitudes toward events is what hurts us, rather than the things themselves, it’s stupid to blame others. Those who want to seek wisdom should realize that blaming others or ourselves for problems, setbacks and mistakes does nothing to help anyone. We make moral progress when we acknowledge the futility of pointing fingers. The more we examine our perceptions and seek self-improvement, the less likely we’ll be to lose our shit when we are assaulted by unexpected catastrophes. This sort of childish and reactionary behaviour is rampant in our internet culture, with Youtube drama and people dunking on each other on Twitter. We all succumb to it from time to time. But we should always try to remember this. Shit happens. What other people think is none of our concern. No shame, no blame:
