Newest Mindgasms Podcast with my Orthodox Christian friend Shane Kennedy, my Protestant Christian friend Justin, and my street epistemology friends Nathan Ferguson and Reid Nicewonder, who are Atheists like me. We discuss whether aborted fetuses have souls and go to Heaven. From here, we get into all sorts of other related questions like: Is abortion interfering with God’s plan? What qualifies an interfering in God’s plan? When does life begin? How do we know whether someone is dead or alive? Do souls exist? Can we know who goes to Heaven? Does whether someone has a soul even matter in terms of whether they go to Heaven? How can we know what God’s plan is? Can the claim that aborted fetuses do not go to Heaven be disproven? If so, how? Are there different types of knowledge? Are science, evidence and rational explanations superior ways of knowing? Is knowledge from the heart, or a feeling, better than scientific or evidence-based knowledge? What is truth? How important is knowing whether something is true or false? Is it more important for a worldview to improve your life than it is for it to be true? How can we determine this? Does objective truth exist? Can it be proven both by evidence and by intuition or feeling? Is one way of proving this superior to all others? If so, why?

Check out my Mindgams Movie Chat with Reid and Nathan on the documentary called Mighty Ira. This is about a former ACLU president who got famous for supporting the Civil Rights Movement, then became infamous for defending the free speech of Nazis and KKK members who were holding protests. We discuss whether the freedom of speech of people widely regarded as morally reprehensible should be defended, and whether violence is ever justified against anyone for their ideas. We apply these concepts to the terrible riots and armed Trump supporters who stormed the Washington D.C. capitol yesterday, which led to a woman getting killed. Did Trump incite riots? Will he be legally prosecuted for this and for crimes related to his claims of election fraud? Will he be impeached? If so, will he be removed from office? What the fuck happened? We talk about all of these questions:

Check out my podcast with Shane and Justin on an article on the website of the Orthodox artist and intellectual associated with Jordan Peterson named Jonathan Pageau, about the Canadian philosopher, Marshal McLuhan. It explores how, from McLuhan’s Catholic perspective, the Protestant Reformation supposedly ruined Christianity. I’m an agnostic atheist, and we discuss our different opinions on this. We get into McLuhan’s claim that the Protestant Reformation changed faith from more of a sense to more of a concept, along with his criticisms of rationalism, materialism and individualism that he associates with Protestantism. Also, we discuss McLuhan’s argument that the Reformation leading to more different interpretations of Christianity is bad, and limited people’s perspectives more than the formerly collective way of understanding it. We get into our agreements and disagreements of what Christianity is about to both Justin and Shane too, and define a wide variety of terms such as faith and god. Descartes’ philosophical foundationalism, Kant’s transcendental idea of God, both thinkers’ connection to and justification for individualism, rationalism, along with McLuhan’s claims that these are connected to Protestantism and that they lead to metaphysical nihilism, are explored as well. Also, we discuss my distinction between beliefs, knowledge and actions, which Shane disagrees with, along with his shared opinion with Justin that God’s existence does not need to be rationally proved. We talk about whether the bible qualifies as a form of technology, whether it’s a visual medium, and compare empiricism to Pragmatism. Another topic we get into is Aristotle’s philosophy being used to support Catholicism, and Plato being used to prop up Protestantism. We also examine whether the whole world can be seen as a church, what this means, how this can be reconciled with McLuhan’s claim that our culture is post-Christian, as well as whether the latter claim is true. We discuss how Mcluhan defines the logos and how Justin and Shane see this concept too, along with whether The Enlightenment can be causally connected to nihilism.
