Newest Mindgasms Book Review on chapter 1 of the book called Cynical Theories by James Lindsay and Helen Pluckrose. Lindsay is a former mathematician, and Pluckrose is a writer who runs Areo magazine. They became famous, along with the philosopher, Peter Boghossian, by getting involved with the so-called Intellectual Dark Web through supposedly exposing what they called grievance studies by submitting fake woke papers to academic journals, a small minority of which got published and not retracted. Cynical Theories is Pluckrose and Lindsay’s book filled with cherry-picking, oversimplifications, misinterpretations and intellectual laziness that lumps a whole bunch of different fields together, some of which are legitimate and interesting, while others really are woke nonsense. They claim that the roots of woke social justice warriors comes from the Critical Theorists in the infamous Frankfurt School, along with “Postmodernism,” Critical Race Theory, gender studies, whiteness studies, queer theory, anti-racism, feminism, Marxism, and basically any other ideology or philosophy that they don’t like. This video on chapter 1 is my detailed criticism of their bullshit claim that Postmodernism is literally the same as Critical Theory.
Mindgasms Quickie about the history behind the famous Spartan warrior culture of the ancient Greek empire’s ritualized practice of what we would now see today as pedophilia. I apply this to the French Post-Structuralist philosopher named Michel Foucault’s argument in his book, “The History of Sexuality.” This is that many sexual practices and orientations declared by modern Enlightenment Institutions of science and religion as abnormal sins and medical flaws, including pedophilia and homosexuality, were widely accepted and precticed by most societies thorughout the majority of human history. Contrary to popular misconceptions of many public intellectualls who demonize so-called Postmodernism, like Jordan Peterson and James Lindsay, this certainly did not mean that Foucault was justifying or defending pedophilia.
