Newest Mindgasms Quickie that is my first in a series on a book by Emma Goldman called Anarchism and other Essays. This is a classic text on Anarchism. Goldman was a famous/infamous feminist American radical Anarchist from Russia. She was against the Women’s Suffrage Movement, and advocated for political violence, including assassinating politicians. This episode is about her essay called Prisons: A Social Crime and Failure, in which she goes into detail on how awful prisons are. They were even worse back in the period of history that Emma Goldman was living in, during the Women’s Suffrage Movement She explains how prisons dehumanize people and take their rights away, along with the profound suffering and torture that prisoners have to go through. This is relevant in today’s culture because there was of course recently a group of supporters of Black Lives Matter who were promoting the abolition of all prisons, in reaction to police brutality and people like George Floyd being murdered by cops. I also get into the distinction between anarchists like Emma Goldman and Michael Malice, Anarcho-capitalists like Dave Smith, and Libertarians like Ayn Rand. Like Goldman, Malice and Rand were both Russian immigrants to America. Michael Malice is an anarchist, is famous for having been on Joe Rogan’s podcast, and wrote books like The New Right, and Dear Reader: The Unauthorized Autobiography of Kim Jong-Il. Dave Smith is a well-known comedian and anarcho-capitalist who has also been on Rogan’s podcast. Ayn Rand of course became famous for promoting her Libertarian political philosophy of Objectivism through her novels like The Fountainhead, and Atlas Shrugged.
Check out my last Mindgasms Quickie with me reading a book by the apparently racist children’s author named Dr. Seuss, called Green Eggs and Ham. This is simply about a kid named Sam trying to convince someone to eat green eggs and ham in various places. Several books by Dr. Seuss were recently discontinued in print by his family’s estate. However, you can still buy them in some places online. This has been admired by uber-left social justice warriors, and has been seen by both them and reactionary uber-right anti-social justice warriors as Dr. Seuss becoming the latest victim of cancel culture in the culture war. Conservative pundits have of course expressed a lot of outrage about this. The fact that these particular books have been banned in super dumb, but so is the extreme reaction to it. I’m reading Green Eggs and Ham as a stunt simply because it’s completely ridiculous for any book by Dr. Seuss to be considered by anyone to be controversial or somehow harmful, in any way:
